I grew up with Disney...

and loved it, but this was happening in the world beyond Fantasyland..

This sexist crap wasn't exclusive to Disney, but it's really disgusting to see it so clearly spelled out!

Five Worst Movies of all time ~ according to me

Lifted from Frank's blog.

1 Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. I don't think we even said anything--just got up and walked out. I've been wary of every Steve Martin movie since then.

2 How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Jim Carrey should be the roast beast.

3 The Quick and the Dead. Hard to believe that a reasonably good cast (Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio) could make such a dead horse of a western. String 'em all up, I say.

4 The Wizard of Oz. I read every one of Baum's Oz books, and I don't know where Judy Garland (ick) was, but it wasn't Oz. A sappy downer of a movie.

5 The Guns of Navarone. One of Frank's comments reminded me of this. This entire movie was filmed in the dark. My mom and I saw it at the drive-in and spent the whole time asking each other what was happening.

Any movie with any of these people in it could lengthen anyone's Worst-of list: Madonna, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, any of the Rat Packers, Charlton Heston, Sondra Locke, Barbra Streisand, Sylvester Stallone, Prince, Marilu Henner, Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Tony Danza, Andrew Dice Clay. I'm sure there are more but it hurts to think about this.

Thursday Thirteen

I absolutely love good costuming, especially in movies. Tomorrow is Hallowe'en and this seemed an appropriate subject. Here are thirteen favorites that I never tire of. Some are represented by more than one photo because I feel they are particularly deserving, and others have only one photo because that's all I could find (today). I didn't realize that I was so fond of red and white, but there it is. I doubt you'll be surprised by any of my choices, but hey, it was fun.
I know I will have to visit this topic again, and perhaps again. And movie sets would be fun, too.

1. Shakespeare In Love

2. Interview with the Vampire

3. Rob Roy

4. Serenity

5. Dances with Wolves

6. Romeo and Juliet

7. The Last Emperor

8. The Great Gatsby

9. Elizabeth, The Golden Age

10. Star Wars (any and all of them)

11. Marie Antoinette

12. The Sting

13. Amadeus

Friday Fill-in

1. Somewhere with clear, aqua water is high up on my bucket list.
2. My favorite quote is "Nothing in the Verse can stop me"; it's from Firefly!
3. My large collection of images inspired me to start blogging.
4. Strawberries are best with rhubarb in a pie. Or just-picked.
5. I'm in a space where I'm not remembering my dreams, so, in the last dream I remember having, I don't remember having it!
6. The most enjoyable time to go for a walk is whenever there are shells to be found on the seashore.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to spending last hours with Ronnie, FM, and the girls, tomorrow my plans include many hours on a plane, and Sunday, I want to see my Rick and celebrate Father's Day! And talk to my dad on the phone, of course.

Thursday Thirteen

Them: Jeez, you're not doing movies, too, are you??

Me: Can if I want.

Thirteen Movies I Love but Feel Compelled to Explain Why

  1. Notting Hill. And they lived happily ever after and had darling babies with British accents.

  2. Stage Door. All those rival starlets bitching and clawing. Hepburn's famous (stolen/borrowed) line "The calla lilies are in bloom again." Lucille Ball before Ricky. Ginger Rogers without Fred.

  3. Much Ado About Nothing. Exactly. The Italian sun on Vignamaggio and Shakespeare at play. Hey Nonny, Nonny.

  4. Shogun. The costuming! Scene after scene of culture clash, Anjin-san.

  5. A League of Their Own. Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna playing themselves playing baseball while you watch Geena Davis and Tom Hanks.

  6. The Long Kiss Goodnight. Every action-film trick in the book. Amnesia chick. Endangered child. Fast cars. Humorous sidekick. Big explosions. Guns galore. Evil, evil men. Neatly diced vegetables. Chefs do that.

  7. White Squall. A crew of preppy kids face the perfect storm with Jeff Bridges at the helm. A true story, honest.

  8. Donovan's Reef. Morality play on a tropical isle. With the exception of Dorothy Lamour, it's not the usual cast of island-dwellers: John Wayne, Lee Marvin, Cesar Romero, Jack Warden. And they live happily ever after, too.

  9. Eat, Drink, Man, Woman. The first 7 minutes. Food. Oh, the food!

  10. Drumline. Those drum cadences. Love 'em. The rest of the movie is several other movies I've seen.

  11. Mr. Holland's Opus. Mr. Holland does good and I love to watch him do it.

  12. Twister. Bill loves too much. Melissa. Jo. Dorothy. An F5 tornado. They will all try to kill him, but not one will succeed. But, hey--they live happily ever after, too! Well, maybe not Dorothy.

  13. The Addams Family and TAFValues. I know, that makes 14, but I always watch them together. "Don't torture yourself. That's my job." Morticia is my hero.
